Background

The leisure and retail development at Castle Quay, Banbury features 55,000 square foot of state-of-the-art entertainment space. Set over three floors, the ambitious project includes a seven-screen cinema – The Light – as well as several restaurants, a hotel and supermarket, all overlooking the Oxford Canal. The transformational waterfront development, set to open from April 2022, has revived the canal-side in Banbury as an attractive retail destination.

Working in partnership with McLaren, Rotec were selected to provide the steel door package for The Light cinema, Premier Inn hotel and supermarket Lidl.

Our solution

We provided several steel door solutions on the project, including standard steel doors, fire-rated and flood protection doors, with access controls installed throughout the site.

Maintaining regular communication between site teams was particularly important for this project. Having three separate building sites split by the canal, all with varying handover times, added a layer of complexity. Furthermore, the on-site supermarket Lidl came on board halfway through the build; plans needed to be altered to accommodate their requirements, including the installation of flood doors.

The Rotec installation team worked closely with the McLaren throughout to achieve a coordinated effort and timely completion.
