Background
Transforming the Cambridge Road Estate: A Case Study
The Cambridge Road Estate is set for a major transformation, with 2,170 new homes, including 871 council-rented properties, providing vital housing for the community. Beyond the residential spaces, the development will feature a new community centre, green streets, and outdoor areas, designed to foster a vibrant, sustainable neighbourhood for generations to come.
The Challenge
As the project progressed, an opportunity to refine the design emerged. What was initially planned as a single curtain walling screen needed to be split into two, due to the interface with the canopy. This required us to adapt the approach and coordinate carefully for a seamless connection. Additionally, structural limitations on-site meant a traditional curtain walling detail wouldn’t work, pushing us to find a solution that balanced both aesthetic appeal and functionality.
Our Solution
To meet the project’s high standards, we supplied the necessary perimeter flashings for a secure, integrated installation. By splitting the curtain walling into two screens, we achieved a smooth interface with the canopy, enhancing both structural efficiency and visual appeal. To address the site constraints, we implemented a suspended curtain walling screen, ensuring we stayed true to the design intent while delivering a practical, effective solution.
