Background
With aspirations to become one of the most modern training centres in Europe, Leicester City Football Club’s new training grounds are full to the brim with state-of-the-art facilities.
Spread over a 185-acre site, there are 21 playing surfaces including 14 full-sized pitches and a 499-seat main pitch for selective use by local academies.
King Power Centre – the site’s central point – houses an indoor pitch and media centre built into the landscape with a subtle sloping design.
The Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha Building (named after the late patriarch of the club) is home to extensive rehabilitation facilities including a hydrotherapy pool, cryogenics chambers, medical treatment rooms, and a bespoke gymnasium.
Work began on the site in 2019 and was completed in late 2020 with players moving to the new facilities on Christmas Eve.
Our Solution
Never one to shy away from a challenge, Rotec took the large-scale project in our stride. As part of McLaren’s key supply chain, we were commissioned to supply and install over 60 steel doors throughout the 4 buildings.
Distributional complexities due to the scale of the project and the number of buildings were resolved through a detailed and highly organised installation schedule.
Unfortunately, the project suffered from some unavoidable delays due to adverse weather conditions. This resulted in frequent programme changes which required on-the-spot thinking from our team to adapt to the new schedules.
After the handover was completed, our maintenance division was able to further assist the client when one of our doors became damaged through a corrosive chemical spill. They were able to source a highly specialised protectant for the replacement door to prevent any further damage in the chemical storage facility.
