Employee Spotlight – Kerry Hopwood

Background and experience

I left school at 18 after completing my A-levels and chose not to attend university. Instead, I applied for an apprenticeship at AstraZeneca, which led to an 18-year career with the company. My apprenticeship was in HR, and after completing it, I remained in the field, taking on various roles. I worked in the payroll team, held multiple HR data positions, and later transitioned into HR project work as a Project Coordinator.

How did you end up working as a Contracts Coordinator?

As my contract at AstraZeneca was coming to an end, I sought opportunities outside of HR to challenge myself. I was confident that my project experience would serve me well in this new direction.

Key accomplishments and contributions in your current role.

I have gained hands-on experience through on-the-job training, learning as I go. I have contributed to the NCR process by ensuring weekly reviews for the installations team. Additionally, I successfully managed a full week on my own, covering for a colleague’s annual leave. This experience was invaluable—I learned a great deal and navigated the challenge confidently, despite having been in the role for less than two months!

What does your day-to-day look like?

As well as having a regular set of tasks to complete, the day can be very reactive. The mailbox is a constant flow of emails, so I need to stay on top of that, take phone calls, ensure trackers are up to date, and arrange weekly deliveries. Between myself and my colleague Gemma, it can be a juggling act, but we always manage it! The main focus of the role is to deliver our doors to site. Here at Rotec, we are at one of the final stages of the workflow.

How long have you been with Rotec?

2 months

What do you enjoy most about working for Rotec?

I’ve settled in quickly, thanks to the people around me. Everyone has been incredibly welcoming, offering plenty of reassurance and support along the way, and I’m truly grateful for that. While juggling multiple tasks can be stressful at times, there’s a real sense of satisfaction when everything falls into place and you end the week having achieved everything you set out to.
